A New Adventure Called...Ironman

Yes...Ironman.
IM
140.6
2.4 mile swim
112 mile bike
26.2 mile run
THAT Ironman

I'm so nervous and excited at the same time, I could pee my pants.

I'd been pondering a new challenge lately and my BFF's husband is doing the MS150 this year. So I thought I would join along. I was thinking if I could bike 150 miles in two days, I might be able to THINK about that little thing called IM for next year.

So I tracked all my bike rides out, doing a lot of organized rides on the weekends.
I planned on keeping up with marathon training as well. Cuz...well...that's just what I do.
Then got to asking people I know that have done an IM before to take a peek at their schedule just to see what I might be getting myself into for next year.

Sooo...after I got several schedules back and looked them over, my brain started churning 100mph...
I am already doing the running.
I already have these bikes planned out.
I feel like I could be halfway on schedule already.
So why not? Why not just jump in and do an IM this year.
This year? Yes...how about SEPTEMBER!

Right now my main focus is the bike. I need to get up to speed. I'm a slow poke.
My second focus...not drowning.
Other than that, I should be good.
HA!

I have a LONG way to go in a SHORT amount of time.
But I always seem to be up for a challenge.
We'll see what the next 94 days bring.
I'm not focused on a time. Just crossing the finish line.

So Redman...HERE I COME!

  1. Athens Greece Marathon! You are so lucky. That's the 2500th anniversary of the battle of Marathon.

  3. Whoa! I know you do anything and everything you put your mind to. BUT!!! and don't you HATE BUT?

first off, have you cycled the 180K in one day?

have you been swimming? Have you swam in a churning, thrashing open water with 2,000 of your closest friends you've never met before?

can you run a marathon in under 5hrs?

I'm only asking these things because I care...
and you are just coming back from an injury.

Okay, tell me to shut up right now, but (there is that word again), I would truly reconsider, not give up on the idea, but reconsider your time frame.

Unless there is no time limit on the Iron Man, then by all means, but if there is and if you can't swim the distance in the allotted time, you'll be pulled before you even get to the bike corral.

Please, please, please, do it if you really have your heart set on it, *but* you might want to think about the training you will need to do.

(I trained last year with a friend who did Iron Man Lake Placid and she took almost a year to get into IM shape, and she was already a Half Iron Triathlete...)

  5. Ms. Mother Hen (Laurel)-Thank you for your feedback. I know you are concerned about me and I did not go into this decision lightly. It's something I've been pondering for a while now.

I have done an HIM so I do know somewhat what I'm getting into. I am aware some people train quite a while and I know I'm jumping in very late in the scheme of things.

I'm aware of the cut off times. I know the drill. With the time allowed, I don't need to run a marathon in under 5 hours. I've already got it plotted out how much I am allowing myself for each sport and it's under the cut off times. I know what I'm getting myself into. Is it going to be easy?
    No.
    HELL NO.
Am I going to at least attempt?
    Yes.
    HELL YES.

  8. Mother Hen-I Heart You! I know you're only looking out for my best interest!

I know this is a tough road to haul and a chance that I may not get through it. I'm okay with that. But right now, felt it was a good time for me to at least tri!

Thank you for all your support! I'm going to need it!

  9. So so excited for you!! I can´t wait to read about the training and to cheer you on from afar.

I had been contemplating Redman before the team for the three-day adventure race came together. It would have been so fun to meet there!
