What Am I Doing?

I have no clue.
I'm supposed to be training for this thing called Pigman.
A Half Ironman distance triathlon.
I feel I haven't been doing what I'm supposed to be.
Some days I care.
Others I don't.
I ride 40 miles and have a great time.
I bike 7 miles and it kills me.
What is going on?
Swimming is going well.
Biking is so hit or miss.
Running...I'm a big slug.
I'm not sure if I really want to even do this anymore.
What to do?
What to do?
Sunday is supposed to be a 65 mile bike ride.
My longest bike ride ever.
I'd like to get in a good brick of maybe 6 miles after my bike.
I guess I'll take it day by day and see how things go.
Suggestions?
Motivation?
I'll take any of it!

  1. It sonds like you are burned out. Maybe you should take a break for a week or so?

  3. I just happened upon your blog, so going in TOTALLY blind sounds like you are 1. Having an off day or 2. Burnt out..

Decide which one it is an go from there. Anyone who even thinks of tackling even a portion of an Iron Man is AMAZING in my book. If that is still your goal then great...if not??

    Have a great weekend!

  4. It is normal to have on off day from time to time. The heat and Humidity are HUGE factors, and we have had our share of that! Keep at it....if it were easy, everyone would be doing what we do.

  5. I've totally been feeling the same way, and I think for me, it's that I have too much else going on and I can't put the mental or logistical energy into training... Maybe now that everything else has calmed down you'll be able to recalibrate?

Good luck with the ride this weekend - I hope it shakes some of the blah-ness out!

  6. YOU CAN DO IT! I'm training for another half in September, some days I do 6 miles and want to DIE and others I do 5 and could continue forever! Just get far enough away from home that you HAVE to complete your length by returning to home. That's my ridiculous strategy but hey, I always end up doing my distances!

ps. Make a really GREAT reward for your effort...like going to your favorite restaurant if you complete it, or getting a pedicure or something!

  7. give yourself a big treat or a day or two off to just do what you want without worrying about workouts?

sometimes when i am not in the mood i either have to force myself through it until i crest the hill, or allow myself a few days off without worrying or stressing about getting runs in. of course, we always push through and get back to our normal, addicted to working out selves :)

good luck! have a great weekend - whether you take it easy or master the rides & runs!

  8. Let's see, on your left column I see you've completed TEN hard and long events since January of this year!!! I would NOT be surprised if you are a little burned out. You need to get to the basics of running for yourself, running for fun, running to chit chat with friends-new and old...SEE your profile on why you run, also on the left column. Be gentle with yourself.

  10. Hope you are pushing through it... I would love to come and do the Pigman with you, but I don't think I'll be ready by then, but you are sooo tempting me!

  11. I say take a few days off, ditch Pigman and come do Redman with me. Currently Redman is closed but the left over reserved spots open up at midnight tomorrow night (15th). I am planning to stay up and get my spot reserved....broken busted up hand or not...the cast comes off in 5 weeks so I hope to be ready 4 weeks later. That gives you 4 or 5 more weeks to train and we can meet up and swim, bike, run together if you like.
